Treatment:
Liver Transplant
Meanwhile, my brother had been battling extreme discomfort and pain for more than 72 hours with no relief. We immediately contacted Dr. Vibhute’s team and shifted my brother to Sahyadri hospital on the night of February 18, where they immediately took charge of his situation. His condition was diagnosed as ALI (Acute Liver Injury) caused due to Hepatitis A along with medicine-induced toxicity caused due to medicine he had been prescribed for a hair treatment taken a week earlier. Due to the complete failure of liver functioning and the medicine-induced toxicity, his kidneys also suffered and went into complete shutdown.
We were almost ready for the liver transplant scenario for the first two days, when slowly things took a turn and it was no longer required, because of the expert judgment and timely intervention of the Head of the Liver Team Dr. Bipin Vibhute and his team – Dr. Manish Pathak (Transplant Anesthesia and Critical Care Consultant), Dr. Sandeep Kulkarni (Sr. Gastroenterologist), Dr. Abhijeet Mane, Dr. Manoj Raut, Mr. Arun Ashokan, and Dr. Aniruddha Bhosale. Other senior consultants of Sahyadri – Dr. Sachin Patil (Sr. Nephrologist), Dr. Raman Gaikwad (Sr. Infection Specialist), and Dr. Amol Bhansode (Sr. Lungs Specialist) also intervened and supervised my brother’s overall treatment in the best possible way.
My brother has completely recovered now, all thanks to Dr. Bipin Vibhute and the commendable effort of the above team. I would like to add that we met the best of human beings, despite going through the worst phase of our life. Dr. Vibhute is not only a great doctor, but he is also an inspiration. While he had counseled our family and put our minds to ease even for the scenarios in which the most complex of interventions would have been required, he constantly assured us of a positive medicine-based recovery which he and his team successfully ensured. Also, despite his hectic round-the-clock schedule, he was always approachable even post-discharge to resolve any queries and fears that clouded our mind regarding my brother’s progress and recovery. Be it on phone or WhatsApp, our smallest of queries got answered which provided my family much needed support and relief during this tough ordeal.
More so, he is an incredibly positive person who trusts his instincts, who will instill hope and fill you with positivity even during the most difficult times, keeping both the patient as well as the family positive and determined throughout. A special mention to the entire ICU staff of the Liver Ward, the team of dedicated brothers and sisters, who took immense care of my brother with an unbelievable level of care and commitment. We were able to sleep those nights, as they were awake keeping a watch over my brother. To conclude, words are simply not enough to convey our deep gratitude to Dr. Bipin Vibhute and the Liver Team of Sahyadri. We thank you from the bottom of our heart and wish you the very best for the future. 🙂
