In India, the general population has a prevalence of NAFLD of close to 40%. According to experts, spreading awareness of a healthy lifestyle will help to avoid and control this condition.
NAFLD is typically easy to diagnose with blood tests, ultrasounds, and a few other procedures, although it may take longer if there are no symptoms at first. Due to its gradual course and lack of particular complaints, the disease is ignored by both patients and doctors.
Reasons –
1 – Over Nutrition
Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a major complication of metabolic dysfunction, usually a complication of obesity. The disease is not necessarily caused by eating too much fat in your diet — but having an unhealthy diet can predispose you to the condition. Patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease typically consume a Western diet that is heavy on soda, frozen junk food, juice, red meat, lard, processed meats, whole-fat dairy foods, fatty snack foods, take-out food, cakes, and biscuits while being deficient in cereals, whole grains, fruit, vegetables, extra virgin olive oil, and fish.
2-Less Active way of Life
Many of us encounter rising levels of inactivity in our daily lives. Due to our hectic schedules, we rarely engage in physical activity and spend the majority of our waking hours sitting down. This way of living is detrimental to both your liver and general health. Inactivity increases the likelihood of developing a fatty liver over the long run, which can result in the condition of steatosis, or a buildup of lipid and carbohydrate reserves in the liver.
Regular physical activity is essential and highly advised to assist your body to eliminate this lipid and carbohydrate reserve.
3 – Liver Cleansing Fads
Liver cleansing and detox drinks have gained a lot of buzz in the health community recently. They are promoted as natural remedies that can help heal your liver, eliminate toxins, and boost energy, among other benefits. The companies who make these drinks claim that all these drinks cleanse your liver by detoxifying it, but these are all just speculations and there is no scientific proof at all.
4 – Misconception That Alcohol Leads to Fatty Liver
It’s not true to some extent as alcohol is not the only single reason for Fatty liver damage. There are two types of Fatty liver –
- Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) – This is a lifestyle ailment that affects 25-30 per cent of the world’s population. NAFLD is frequently disregarded by patients since they believe it to be a benign disorder. The metabolic risk factors associated with a sedentary lifestyle and consumption of high-calorie foods are the primary causes of NAFLD in India. Even though some people may be genetically susceptible, obesity and overweight, diabetes mellitus (blood sugar), hypertension (high blood pressure), and dyslipidemia (deranged blood lipids) are the main risk factors for NAFLD.
- Alcoholic Fatty liver disease (AFLD) – Drinking for a long time can be susceptible to this type of liver damage.
