      Is it Safe to Drink Alcohol if you Have Fatty Liver | लिवर डिजीज है तो क्या आप अल्कोहल ले सकते हो?

by | Jun 15, 2021 | Liver Transplant Videos, Videos

The liver is our largest internal organ and it has 500 different roles, including the breakdown of food into energy and helping the body get rid of waste products and fight infections. And yet, when your liver is damaged, you generally won’t know about it until things get serious.

Consumption of alcohol is one such thing and whether people with liver diseases should consume alcohol the answer is definitely “No”.

And to understand why No? Let us understand what happens to our liver when we drink alcohol:

      1. Alcohol is very quickly moved around the body in the bloodstreams to all parts of the body. Alcohol stays in the blood until the liver can break it down.
      2. The alcohol consumed not only affects our liver but also other organs like the brain, heart, kidney, and numerous others.
      3. The liver filters the blood and breaks down about 80 to 90 % of alcohol by metabolizing it (breaking it down with the help of the enzymes) like alcohol dehydrogenase and converts it into acetaldehyde which is extremely acidic and is the cause of liver damage in our body.
      4. It takes your body approximately an hour to process one alcoholic beverage. This time frame increases with each drink.
      5. This causes various liver diseases like Alcoholic fatty liver, Alcoholic hepatitis, Fibrosis, and cirrhosis.
      6. In some cases, it also causes cellular mutation that may lead to liver cancer.
      7. The amount of alcohol considered to be least damaging depends on a person’s body weight, size, and whether they are male or female.
      8. Mixing alcohol with other medications can also be very dangerous for your liver and especially for people already having liver disease.
      9. Alcohol causes 4 out of 5 deaths from liver disease.
