      World Liver Day and Here’s Why It’s So Important

      Every year on April 19th, World Liver Day is observed to raise awareness about the body’s second-largest organ.

      Hepatitis A, B, and C, as well as alcohol and drugs, can cause liver disease. Consumption of contaminated food and water, unsafe sexual habits, and drug addiction are all causes of viral hepatitis.

      This can lead to Liver Cirrhosis and Liver Cancer if not treated promptly.

      According to the World Health Organization, liver diseases are the tenth leading cause of death in India.

       

      WHAT IS THE IMPORTANCE OF THE LIVER?

      1. Defends against infections and disease
      2. Blood sugar is regulated, harmful substances are discarded,
      3. Cholesterol levels are controlled, and blood clotting is aided.
      4. Many of the body’s essential proteins are made here.
      5. Aids digestion by releasing bile.
      6. It’s in charge of making cholesterol and triglycerides.
      7. Alcohol, as well as medications and medicines, are broken down.
      8. In the body, it breaks down insulin and other hormones.

       

      LIVER DISEASE CAUSES:

      1. Liver disease may be inherited or caused by genetic.
      2. Unhealthy eating and lifestyle habits
      3. Hepatitis A, B, and C are viruses that can damage the liver.
      4. Increased intake of alcoholic beverages, as well as high-cholesterol-inducing junk foods
      5. Overweight, Obesity, and Type 2 Diabetes are all symptoms of Type 2 diabetes.

       

      COMMON SYMPTOMS:

      1. Jaundice
      2. Weight loss
      3. Appetite suppression
      4. Vomiting and nausea
      5. Weakness or fatigue in general
      6. Pain in the right side of the upper abdomen or near the right shoulder blade
      7. Liver enlargement (hepatomegaly)
      8. Spleen enlargement
      9. Swelling in the abdomen (ascites)


      CLEANSING OF THE LIVER:

      1. Garlic, grapefruit, carrots, green leafy vegetables, apple, and walnuts are all good for liver.
      2. Use extra virgin olive oil or ghee.
      3. Green tea, lemon and lime juice
      4. Alternative grains are preferred (Quinoa, Millet and Buckwheat)
      5. Cruciferous vegetables should be added (Cabbage, Broccoli and Cauliflower).
      6. Turmeric can be used in cooking.

       

      PREVENTION IS ESSENTIONAL:

      1. Adopt a healthy way of life
      2. Maintain a balanced diet.
      3. Consume foods from all food classes, including grains, protein, dairy, fruits, vegetables, and fats.
      4. Fibre-rich foods include fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grain breads, rice, and cereals.
      5. To prevent contracting hepatitis A, B, or C, ensure healthy blood transfusions.
      6. After using the restroom, wash your face.

      Exercise on a daily basis to keep the liver healthy.
