Hi, my name is Pranav Kanani, I went through a Liver Transplant on the 23rd of July 2016 performed by Dr. Bipin Vibhute at Sahyadri Hospital Pune. Excessive consumption of alcohol was the reason due to which my liver got damaged. The damage was so severe that a liver transplant was the only option if I wanted to live. A broken marriage followed by self-pity made me take to the bottle. I would like to tell the readers that sometimes in life things do not go as planned and that alcohol is not the solution to it. It will destroy you rather than helping you. I made this mistake but would like to request the readers that if anyone of you is going through the hard times, please take the help of your family, friends, or even a psychiatrist. Talk to the people close to you rather than keeping everything within yourself and landing up drinking and spoiling your health.

I enrolled myself in Sahyadri hospital and had to wait for five months to get the liver. In this waiting period of five months, I kept myself busy with work and reading books. My family was my biggest support system and they helped in building my confidence with their positive approach to the problem I had created. It is very important to keep a positive approach at any point in time and especially in difficult times. I was regular in follow-ups with the doctors, having my medicines on time and following everything that was told to me by the doctors, to get my life back on track. I was lucky and blessed to get the organ for a transplant and got a second chance to live. I am very grateful and thankful to Dr Bipin Vibhute and his team to give me my life back. After the transplant I took very good care of myself and followed all the guidelines. The first six months are very important for a transplant patient as the chances of getting an infection is very high, due to low immunity of the body. My mother, whom I had forgotten about, in my own self-pity helped me to recover and to come back to living a normal life again. She gave me birth and then she helped me in getting a rebirth, a second chance in life. I started living a healthy life and used to go for 10 km walks every day. All my levels were in control and life seemed great once again. But some people learn the very hard way. I guess, I am one of them.

Human beings are a funny species, when everything is going well we tend to forget that, it is going well because we are taking care. The same happened with me. I stopped being careful about what I ate and started putting on weight. Stopped following the few restrictions that had to be followed and soon my levels went haywire. A Liver Transplant patient cannot afford to have fatty liver. Once again, Dr Bipin Vibhute helped me to get back to normal by doing a bariatric surgery to help me lose the weight I had put and to get my levels in control. They say that to get a second chance in life is rare, I have been extremely fortunate to get three chances and this time I will definitely not mess it up.
