Many times when I sit alone and think about the last fifteen months of my life “The Men In Black’ always comes to my mind. My name is Jogesh Mehta. ‘The Men In Black’ is the name I have given to this wonderful Liver Team of Sahyadri Hospital who helped me overcome a close shave with death. I had been diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver in 2016. My family enrolled me at every possible hospital all over India to be in the queue to get a cadaver. Somehow we did not enroll in Sahyadri Hospital. The waiting period in all hospitals was too long. Dr. Lalit Shimpi (Gastroenterologist) who was treating me asked us to get enrolled in Sahyadri, as they had a Liver Team which was good and reliable. We went with all my reports to Dr. Bipin Vibhute at Sahyadri.

My full family got such positive vibes after meeting him that from our hearts we all wanted that I should be treated by him. Dr. Vibhute is a gem of a person, thinks and cares a lot for his patients, a very positive, excellent surgeon, and a beautiful human being. To my good fortune one day I got a call from Sahyadri hospital telling me that a liver is available for me and to come to the hospital for the transplant. The transplant happened on 3rd May 2017. It was an 11-hour surgery. Everything went perfect and I was saved. To my bad luck, my body did not accept the new liver and there were complications. It took 3 months to stabilize me. Everything that could go wrong in a liver transplant patient happened to me. This happens in the rarest of rare cases and is not a norm for all liver transplant patients, as every human body reacts differently. I was really fortunate that I was with these God sent angels as they gave me their 100% and treated me with a lot of thinking and patience, no harsh treatments they decided, to cause minimum suffering for me. There were nights where Dr. Vibhute used to sit up till late in the night and think on how to treat me ( Dr. Vibhute: you never told me, but I have my sources ?). As far as I was concerned, every day was like a new battle to be fought, but with God’s blessings and The Liver Team, I won the battle at the end of the day. In those 3 months I got discharged twice, but after a few days, had to be admitted back.

During my stay at home, doctors were in touch with us. Any problem, irrespective of the time of day or night my family used to call Dr. Manish Pathak and he would promptly answer his phone and find a remedy to my problem. He is a wonderful person, always available to advise, hard on the outside, and soft inside and always smiling ?. On one particular day, I was not feeling well, so Dr. Abhijeet Mane specially came home to visit me. I would also like to thank: Brother Arun Ashokan, Rahul Tambe, Brother Anugraha Uzagare, and All the staff of Sahyadri. Each one of them, in their own way, contributed to me being there today. I have never seen these type of doctors who give such personal attention and confidence to all of their patients. It has been more than a year since my transplant, but I visit them once in two months to meet them. Check up is just an excuse, I always need their positive vibes. It immediately makes me feel better. As of today, I have never felt so Healthy and Energetic in all my life. I am and will always be very grateful to ‘THE MEN IN BLACK’ of Sahyadri
